Leanne Gardner

University: Royal Holloway, University of London
Company: YourMove Rochills
Project: To help the estate agent develop their struggling letting department.   Leanne analysed how they were succeeding and found ways to improve their services. She later got hands on experience within the office by answering phone calls, registering clients and showing potential buyers available properties. 

“The project has made me realise what I want out of my future. Other than learning computing skills, my biggest achievements have been personal. Completing this project with such a strict time constraint was a great accomplishment.”

Sharmarke Samatar

University: Goldsmiths University
Company: G Media
Project: Sharmarke's passion for web design, programming and computing meant he was offered a place with the leading consumer magazine publisher.  His role was to create an innovative approach to marketing on their website. 

“It’s encouraging to know that the skills learnt at school, university and on my own are applicable in the real world. One of the great benefits was having the chance to prove to myself and others what I can do. This gives me a real inner confidence in the field of programming and design.”

After his placement Sharmarke was offered a part time job with the company, meaning he will continue to expand his knowledge and experience whilst reaping the financial benefits.



Gemma Hedgecock

University: BournemouthUniversity
Company: Projective Ltd
Project:  Projective hadn’t conducted any marketing to raise their profile as one of the UK’s leading providers of energy management, project management and design solutions for manufacturing, process and public utilities companies.  They appointed Gemma the tasks of conducting market research, developing case studies, devising a marketing plan, collecting relevant images and improving their website.

“I felt a huge sense of accomplishment when I saw my animations on the website. I had created these from scratch and the thought that they were professional enough to be used on the website was extremely fulfilling.”


Corinne Thompson

University: Cambridge University
Company: CI Business Services Ltd
Project: To work on a vast re-branding project for the huge commercial cleaning company.  Corinne created Powerpoint presentations for sales representatives, helped compile two brochures-for the two different areas of business and created new business cards and letterheads. She also worked on making their website look more sophisticated and formatted varying email templates.

“This experience has taught me not only a number of valuable skills but it has enlightened me to the processes and aspects that are fundamental in making a business work effectively.”


Edward Jacobs

University: University of Exeter
Company: RedAttic
Project: The London-based website and software developing company took on Edward to help them develop their clients’ websites.  Edward concentrated on developing a charity-based social networking site that incorporated affiliate marketing elements. This PHP driven project enabled users to register their support for a good cause and earn money towards that cause by shopping with affiliate marketing members.  As well as gaining knowledge of what it’s like to be a London commuter, Edward said,
           
   
“The project made good use of my skills, but I learned more about programming in the PHP language and MySQL databases. Working with people experienced in a business and marketing their product is very helpful.”

Odafe Ojenikoh

University: University of Kent, Canterbury
Company: D2See
Project: To successsfully complete a prototype for a new product for the video calls to mobile specialists.           

“I successfully completed prototyping a solution that has the potential of adding significant value to the company. 
I’ve gained skills that will be vital to my degree and future career aspirations and have improved significantly in my knowledge of web programming, applications development, communication technologies and protocols.”
